Podisul Hartibaciului is protected primarily for its extraordinary bird diversity, and high abundance of particularly important bird species. The lesser-spotted eagle thrives thanks to the agricultural mosaic mixed with the presence of extensive, mature woodland. The corncrake enjoys the lush, wet meadows. The bee-eater has plenty of nesting opportunities in the sandy banks. The three shrike species can catch as many insects as they like on the scrubby slopes. The little owl and the white stork enjoy the traditional village life, where they can nest safely on houses, churches or electrical pylons and fly down into the pastures and hay fields to find food. The small scale management of the land has shaped the perfect cultural landscape, with the perfect range of habitats for many birds that are struggling or completely disappeared in western Europe. Here are just a selection of the wonderful birds existing here.
