A flower meadow is a beautiful site, even from a distance. But as you zoom in and get closer and closer, until you are finally immersed in the flowers, that beauty only becomes more intense. You realise the range of colours and diversity of the plants, and then on those plants the range of colours and diversity of the insects that use them. The structure of a flower meadow is even more complex than the wildest rainforests or coral reefs, and just because we struggle to see and comprehend this microscopic world does not mean we should take it for granted.
Next time you are walking through such a meadow, take a minute the look through the layers and discover what is hiding beneath the surface! Here is just a small selection of what we found in a meadow recently.
